We could implement a 10% loyalty discount offer for your own UFAs to help maintain GMs to have some kind of control over their pending free agent. For example, Say Kesler goes to UFA from Columbus I offer Kesler a 4 year deal @ 5,000,000 per season = 20,000,000 total Columbus has the authority to offer the same deal at a 10% discount if he wants, making his offer a 4 year deal @ 4,500,000 per season which = 18,000,000 total, and Kesler would sign with Columbus. That is if his bid lasts the set amount of time. I think this could help balance the fairness of the league, and gives those GMs a little edge over their own UFA's that they lose to free agency. Wait, is this because Ryan Kesler is from Ohio? Columbus happesn to be his home town.

I think the waves thing is necessary just from a staff management perspective the first time. 120+ UFA's all hitting the market at the same time? I can't imagine how we'd keep track of cap space or max winning bids etc. Not the first time anyway.

The way I saw it done had every player put up at the same time.
A subforum was created and there was a thread for each available player (actually there were three subforums, 1 for F, 1 for D, and 1 for G). It's a lot of work to do the initial setup of course.
After that all that needs to happen is have an official post once there is 24 hours (or whatever time period has been decided) that has lapsed between the last, highest bid.
Keeping track of the cap is the responsibility of the GM. If they fail to do so then they will have to clean up their own mess or suffer whatever consequences there are.
I'm not really in the know for how much work Free Agency is for the staff right now (I've yet to sit down and take care of my own free agents), so I can't comment on whether it's more, or less, work to do it this way.

Hey I was reading this article very interesting. I know what we do in a Xbox NHL league we play in is that it is done through Google docs. each owner is given a certain number so say for example I'm given the number 3375 only the commissioner (Wolf) would know who each team is. That way when bidding on a player through the Google doc you won't know what other team is bidding on said player. The Google doc updates automatically and it turns the highest bid for that current player in green and after 24 hours of no bids on said player the Google doc automatically makes the player turn red signifying that the player has been successfully added to it's new team. However nobody will know who got that player until free agency bidding period is over other than the GM and Wolf. Players who don't get bid on could then be used through the email method that you guys have been using here.

That sounds like a really cool idea, google docs seemes like a better idea logistically as well, but I'm not sure about the anonymity of bids.

I don't mind the anonymity of Dallas' idea at all. The idea itself also seems pretty solid.
Also since we are discussing rule changes I still hate the 25 games rule for not being able to trade your own RFAs after resigning (UFAs makes sense) but imo RFAs should be able to be traded. If not right away, then at least by the time offseason roles around. It would add some flexibility to draft day deals since you rarely plan to move an RFA, the deal just kinda happens out of nowhere and the rule kills those opportunities.

I'd agree with this change as well, that makes a lot of sense

We can explore lifting this restriction on rfa.
I'll take to the staff.
There will be an announcement coming in next few days on the auction idea.
We have been doing A LOT of work on this idea
