Effective for the 2016-17 season no goalie will be able to play more than 4200 minutes during the regular season. This is regardless of being traded or whatsoever. Any goalie playing more than 4200 minutes will be suspended for the remainder of the season.

My concern is 4200 minutes is 70 games exactly. What about games that go into overtime? We can expect at least 15ish games going into OT, inflating those minutes. Plus teams can't really control when a goalie gets pulled etc.
Maybe it should be a maximum of 70 game starts for a goaltender? That'd negate the potential OT game minutes, etc.

It works in PHL. ......why mess with it? If your last start leaves your goalie at 4199 minutes he is still eligible the next game.
It will still work out to close to 70 games of which very few nhl goalies reach anymore

70 games is already a lot. I think 4200 minutes is enough.

70 games is already a lot. I think 4200 minutes is enough. Its creates less of a gray zone though where you don't have to account for OT or goalies being pulled. Even if you drop it to 65-67 games I think thats reasonable

Even if you drop it to 65-67 games I think thats reasonable What "gray zone" are we really talking about here? 4200 minutes is pretty defined to me. People worried about going over during a game or something? Just make the rule you can't start a game with more then 4200 minutes if this isn't already the case. I really don't see how there is anything at all problematic about the current way it is set to be implemented.

i like buffalo's idea of minutes played also 4200 minutes would that include playoffs also. 4200 minutes might be high but this way people have to stay on top of this, rotating their goalies and such, also if you go by minutes i believe you would need a pretty solid back-up. i believe minutes played is more realistic and that is what i think the league is leaning toward. my opinion is all.

Its about 70 games. Theres no limit for playoffs
