Why would you trade up one spot for him though, could've just took him at 14 impatience. figured if I was willing to take him, maaaaaayyyybe someone else would have. Lilejgren went very early, I had seen ratings with him at 11. was not worried about move down a few spots in the 3rd. wanted the security of taking the guy I wanted.

I had tolvanen on my mind for #20 but ultimately I had a feeling someone was taking him before then. This is why I traded up. I liked Suzuki better, but my point is that impactful forwards in this 1st round were drying up very quickly . Don't blame Detroit for paying a small fee to assure himself the forward he wanted.

I really only liked 4 guys in the top 20 when I was holding the 5th; Glass, Petterson, Liljegren and Suzuki. Realizing I could trade down from 5th to 8th and still have a run at Petterson, Liljegren and Suzuki made sense to me. Once Petterson was also off the board, I realized that the quality difference between Liljegren and Suzuki for 3 spots was quite large and judging by a couple GM's DMing me after selecting Lijegren, seemed like he was the right pick at 8. The fact that he fell to 16th in the NHL draft this year was shocking. The fact that guys like Rasmussen, Foote and Brannstrom went ahead of him should have a few teams having a serious introspective moment to think about what they have done. I don't think Liljegren should've really fallen out of the top 10 in the NHL draft, that's why I took him at 8. A bout of mono had NHL scouts acting like he caught herpes and was going to spread it in the locker room once he makes it to the big club.

Fucking nailed it even Dallas and Colorado who took makar and heiskanen will probably wish they took Liljegren in a few years time
