Buyouts

I am looking for more information on how exactly buyouts work.
Are there limits to how many buyouts a team can make in a season? Are there any more compliance buyouts available and are the rules different for that? After I place a player on waivers, and if he goes unclaimed, I am then on the hook for 50% salary for the duration of the contract, correct?
Anything else I am missing?

If the player hasnt played in the NHL last season ie ran away to europe you can use an inactive buyout with no cap penalty
You do not have to put players on waivers before a buyout, however you do not get the chance of trying to get rid of the player without penalty.
When you buyout a player you are on the hook for 50% of the contract for the remaining time of the contract
There are no limits on the amount of players you can buyout

Fantastic, thanks. To be honest that's not that harsh of a buyout penalty.

I believe I bought out Ryan Malone. However hes listed as UFA upcoming. He cant be up for free agency and bought out at the same time right?
Also he has an asterisk next to him along with Stalberg. Cant I get clarification? I def didnt buyout Stalberg
Thanks-Joe SJ

I def didnt buyout Stalberg Thanks-Joe SJ if you bought him out he should be a ufa, hes not owned by a team therefore an unrestricted free agent.... the asterix i belive just means you put him on the trade block through the sim at one point during the season

Yes you are correct I dud put the two of them up for trade via the sim.
I did try and buy Malone out which I think I did because I was assessed a Cap Hit however hes now a UFA right now. My issue is I just tried buying him out in the last couple months I think I didnt realize he was going to be UFA anyway. I believe I was assessed an extra 2 million(ish) via the buyout that shouldnt have happen.
It was my bad to send in the buyout request not realizing he was going to be gone anyway

If I can please have the 2 Million or so deducted from the Cap Hit again. * not the 7 million cap hit, that was there before but the other one went up via Malone

He would not have been a UFA.
He is only a UFA now because he has been bought out.
Players become FAs when their contract ends, whether it be because the term is up, or because of a buyout.
