The 2020 VHL Trade Deadline is upon us. It is set for SUNDAY, APRIL 12TH - 6PM EASTERN TIME (3PM Pacific.)
It'll be set on Day 155 in the schedule, which means teams have 19 days as of this post to make any changes to their teams. A trade deadline counter has been added to the top of the forum and it is set to everyones individual timezones. You can view the counter if you're on a computer or on desktop mode on your phone only.
Reminder: The Deadline Cap is now at $85,000,000, but you still cannot commit more than $81,500,000 in salary cap for next season.
With the Trade Deadline, that also means the deadline to submit any new contract negotiations into the agents. Once the trade deadline passes, we will not be accepting any offers on players you were not previously in a negotiation with, however we will continue to honor pre-existing negotiations that were sent in before the trade deadline. This obviously only applies to UFA's. RFA's negotiations are naturally extended to December 1st of every year.
We understand we have been a little slower than usual with negotiations. With the ongoing events surrounding the world right now, things have ended up in a lot of disarray as a result. Staff and GMs of the VHL have been a little more inactive than usual, and we are aware of it. But we staff have collectively acknowledged it, and we will be putting in better measures in place and start putting more emphasis working towards contract negotiations to provide more efficiency as we continue to move towards the end of the regular season.
We will obviously be abandoning our goal every year to be a few weeks behind the NHL, considering that the NHL has paused its current season. We pitched the idea of potentially pausing our own, but it was quickly shot down. We will continue our season as planned. We all deserve a summer and I do not want to be simulating until July and August, cramming the draft and free agency into one month and immediately picking things back up.

AS for the 2020 Trade Deadline,
Scott will be going LIVE on the Facebook VHL page again this year. Since all of you are quarantined, there are NO excuses to miss this special event of watching Scotts grainy video feed with his dolls and fisher price toys in the background, and his $2 trade bait board that nobody can read. We have funded an additional $25 dollars for Scotts Trade Deadline special to improve his studio set this year.
Prior to the deadline, all trades submitted to staff will NOT be posted, instead they will be withheld and forwarded to Scott so that he can announce the deals live. The day of the trade deadline, Scott will be announcing deals live as they come in, and then posting them shortly after to the forum. So any trades you submit 2-3 days prior to the deadline, try to remember to send them to Scott directly! Trades made 2-3 days prior to the deadline will not be put into the simulator until the day of the deadline itself. So keep that in mind if you wish for a deal to go in before the deadline.
GMs are encouraged to call into Scotts Trade Deadline show, wearing a shirt while you call in is optional. If you intend to call in, please notify Scott ahead of time so he can plan his live show around it accordingly!
Thanks everyone, and if you have any questions, drop em in the thread below! Happy trading, and I hope everyone is staying safe at this time.
