Seems like these ratings need a larger ‘spread’ in my opinion. Either lower low ratings or higher high ratings.
I get going for parity but just looking at my own team I can’t really fathom a reasonable metric that rates Tanner Pearson as over 97% as valuable as John Tavares. Mat referenced this as well but surely the gap between star players and supporting cast needs to be larger to represent their value relative to replacement.
Like is Alex Chiasson really 87% the player that Kucherov is? I don’t see Chiasson scoring 110pts if Tampa replaces Kucherov with him. (I get that there is more to hockey than just offense but I think it illustrates the point. Not like Chiasson is known for providing much else)
Obviously I’m bias here but these ratings seem like they massively favour rebuilding vs giving up youth players that aren’t as much of a step down as perhaps they should be.

I haven´t really gone through every team but these ratings are crap anyway you look at it. Just looking at the Winnipeg roster, Byfuglien has a 84 ov rating?!?!? Crosby and Kane have 76 while JT Miller is at 77?! I have no problems with Miller and he had a great season but is he ahead of Crosby and Kane. As others have pointed out these ratings are not spread well enough where the elite is differentiated from the depth players. I´m for anything else but this.

His rating did not change since he didn’t play. Small glitch. Look at categories not just overall. Miller had better defensive and FO season which put him above Kane, but lower in offensive totals

If he´s a 76, 79, or 83 Ov doesn´t matter, what matters is how the high-end guys are rated. Kris Draper won the Selke award back in 03 and scored 24 goals. But that cant put him in the same rating category as Mats Sundin or Jaromir Jagr.

The goaltender ratings in particular seem very strange to me. Vasilevskiy and Andersen are rated exactly the same despite Andersen being worse in every major statistical category and starting the same number of games.
Goalies like Halak have a terrible rating relative to other goalies who put up far worse numbers.

I’m on the fence about these ratings. At first I thought the offensive ratings were too low and there wasn’t enough separating the stars. But I checked the league‘s website and the leading scorers are consistent with what you’d expect and there seems to be plenty of scoring. The goalies do seem way off however, and that’s one where the specific ratings don’t help any more than looking at overall.
I agree that it’s time for the VHL to make its own ratings. As suggested, it makes sense to have Eric for input about the sim engine, Kyle and/or Joe to provide their experience making ratings, and Adam taking the lead given his willingness and ability. I am happy to help as well if needed. A group approach will make the ratings stronger in my opinion.

I'm happy to help give an opinion if the league decides to make it's own ratings, which I think is the way to go. There is too much wrong with these ratings to make them work IMO.
Just one example: Joe Pavelski has a 76 skating rating, higher than guys like Zibanejad, Necas, and many others who are elite or borderline elite skaters. All you have to do is watch Pavelski play and you can see he's one of the worst skaters in the league.

Since there is zero support for the Showtime Hockey ratings, we will be scrapping them. As some of you have noted, it is not simple as a fix by giving every GM a couple re-rates. The problem is the disparity between star players and depth players across the entire board and the inconsistent goalie ratings.
We'll continue to look into other options. As for now, the ratings you see on the website, just consider them a placeholder for the time being.

I'm guessing this won't be ready for free agency. Has anyone started working on this?
