2021 Trade Deadline Primer & Expansion Info

TRADE DEADLINE:
With the 50 game mark of the 2020-2021 season just right around the corner, it's time for the trade deadline primer.
As everyone knows, once you surpass the 50 game mark, any UFA that signed this past summer are eligible to be traded. This generally creates a spike in trade activity in the league. So here are some things of note:
The 2021 VHL Trade Deadline is set for Monday, May 17th, at 6pm eastern time. I've added a trade deadline counter to the top of the forum in the event anyone is curious how much time they have. If you are a mobile user, like Scott, who has too ancient of a laptop to be able to view the board, you'll have to select the 'desktop' function on mobile in order to view the board in html view and the trade deadline counter.
What does the Trade Deadline this year mean?
Well I am sure as you are all well aware of how it works - the Trade Deadline is also the deadline to submit any UFA offers you have for players on your team.
- If there is no offer on a UFA by May 17th, 2021, that player will automatically be going to auction in the summer of 2021.
- If there is an offer by May 17th, 2021, and the player has signed, that player will AUTOMATICALLY be protected as one of your expansion keepers.
- If there is an offer by May 17th, 2021, and the player has yet to sign, we will continue to negotiate in good faith with that player until expansion keeper lists are due.
TRADE DEADLINE CAP INCREASE:
The salary cap will increase to $85,000,000 from $81,500,000 on Day 105 in the sim schedule to account for the trade deadline.
IMPORTANT TO NOTE:
Once the trade deadline has passed, rosters will be FROZEN until the completion of the expansion draft.
So teams will have from now until the trade deadline to finalize their rosters.
Teams will not be permitted in the off-season (between completion of playoffs and expansion) to make any last minute deals. The roster you have at the trade deadline will be the roster you have during the expansion draft process.
SEATTLE:
What does this mean for Seattle?
Teams will STILL be permitted to have 'talks' with Seattle beyond the trade deadline. Seattle is allowed to make deals with any team from now and up until the day of the expansion draft. However, these are the conditions...
You are allowed to compensate Seattle with picks, prospects or players in exchange for:
a) Seattle's agreement to pick _________.
b) Seattle's agreement NOT to pick ________.
Seattle is allowed to include their own picks in such deals.
Deals with Seattle will be kept private until the day of the expansion draft.
KEEPER LIST SUBMISSIONS
Teams will be permitted to submit their keeper list submissions at the start of the 2021-2021 playoffs.
Submissions are DUE one (1) week before the beginning of the expansion draft. This will allow Seattle a week to ponder and make final decisions on who they select.
That date when submissions are due is yet to be determined.. it will depend on when the playoffs complete. We will announce an official date when it gets closer.
