The San Jose Sharks took full advantage of The Deadline festivities and actually set it all in motion with 8 or so deals before Deadline Day. There were alot of needs Gm DesMarais wanted to address with this club and all needs were met, along with strong talks for a few more deals when trading resumes around draft time. In all there were 12 deals made and 1 successful waiver dump
24 players in, 25 out
8 picks in, 5 out
13 million in cap space cleared
All bums, UFA, etc moved out
Deal #1
To Buffalo Sabres:
Dustin Brown (1/2 salary retained) UFA
To San Jose:
2nd
3rd
Happy to collect two picks for an expiring UFA in Brown.
Deal #2
To Minnesota Wild:
Ryan Pulock
To San Jose:
Colin White
Logan Stanley
Tanner Pearson
2nd
Hated to see Pulock go but we love the return of youth. Stanley is a 6’7 beast that looks to be the real deal. Colin White will slot nicely in our top 9 and feel hes still getting better. At the time we were happy to bring in Pearson for the wing although we later dealt him for a better wing asset. We also like the addition of another 2nd.
Deal #3
To Tampa Bay:
Jakub Silfverberg (UFA)
To San Jose:
David Kampf
Josiah Slavin
3rd
3rd
Moving Silfverberg who was an expiring UFA we werent going to resign and picking up young Kampf who we feel hasnt reached his ceiling yet and will most likely play in our top 9. Young prospect Slavin and a few 3rds never hurt either.
Deal #4
To Pittsburgh:
3rd
Brian Boyle (UFA)
Dan DeKeyser (UFA)
Brayden Coburn (UFA)
To San Jose:
Colin Miller (UFA)
Picking up Colin Miller to add to our D core was fantastic especially for just a 3rd. Getting rid of 3 UFA bums was icing on the cake. However I made a mistake signing Miller too early as I rebuilt the D core and now Miller sits as our 7th dman and I fucked myself in expansion.
Deal #5
To Montreal:
Corey Perry
To San Jose:
Will Butcher
Behind excited to move Perry and bring in Butcher who is a top 4 dman for me and we’re extremely high on.
Deal #6
To Las Vegas:
David Savard(UFA)
To San Jose:
Alex Kerfoot
Mikhail Grigorenko
Logan Brown
3rd
Being able to move out UFA Savard was huge who we love but coukdnt resign and picking up a tremendous retirn in yiung stud Kerfoot for our top 9, Grigorenko who is pricey but only now scratching the surface of his talent along with a 3rd and hulking firward prospect Logan Brown. This may be my favorite move of the deals I made.
Deal#7
To Columbus:
Paul Stastny
Jon Merrill
To San Jose:
Ryan Murray
Cam Atkinson (UFA)
Hated to see Stastny go but Merrill was no longer in my top 7 of defense. Bringing in Murray was excellent and will slot in the top 4. We feel he has another level to hit as well and we love Atkinson who recently signed for our top line with Kreider and Hayes. All 3 New England boys and former college stars. Instant chemistry!!!!!
Deal#8
To Minnesota:
Ryan Carpenter
Lukas Wallmark
Jake Walman
3rd
To San Jose:
Nik Hjalmarsson
Will Carrier
Brett Berard
We have always loved Hjalmarsson and happy to bring him in to stabilize the PK and 3rd pairing. Carrier we see as an upgrade to Carpenter and Berard we personally have seen here in Providence and is legit. Walmark was taking up space on the pro roster and Walman we also saw in Providence has slowed in progression.
Deal#9
To Pittsburgh
2nd
3rd
To San Jose:
TJ Brodie
Brodie for a measly 2nd and 3rd, need I say more???! Love bringing him in to our revamped D core.
Deal#10
To Anaheim:
Jesper Fast
Tanner Pearson
Kevin Boyle (UFA)
Derrick Pouliot (UFA)
Ed Pasquale (UFA)
To San Jose:
Radek Faksa
Zach Sanford
Noah Juulsen
Getting rid of 3 bum UFA’s and Fast and Pearson are solid but we personally love Faksa and Sanford are expected to bring it bigtime. So excited
Deal#11
To Dallas:
3rd
Stefan Noesen
To San Jose:
Christian Djoos
Not exciting but necessary
Deal#12
To Philadelphia:
Rickard Rakell (2 mil held)
Brandon Montour (1 mil held)
Ryan Spooner (UFA)
Colton Hargrave (UFA)
Grayson Downing (UFA)
To San Jose:
Jake Bean
Lias Anderson
Dominic Toninato
Otto Koivula (young stud)
2nd
2nd
Love this return!!!!! I could talk about it for hours
We’d like to openly thank all fellow gm’s for great hockey talks and the staff for their tireless effort culminating in a wild trade deadline.
