Reports have surfaced out of Calgary this morning, on the eve of the 2021 playoffs, that star winger Brock Boeser is unhappy with the Flames brass, and has requested a trade out of the Alberta city.
Fresh off a Game 7 stanley cup final appearance, the Flames failed to make the post-season this year. It has surfaced that the lack of communication and commitment from management played a huge factor.
Boeser himself sited that "Myself and Bertuzzi were approached early in the season for contract extensions, yet we haven't heard anything since then from our initial discussions from months and months ago. To have this lingering over our heads all season long was a big factor in our play, personally."
GM Will was on a VHL Live show this morning, and was quoted as saying ""I still have to re-sign some guys, I have 14 million in cap for them, but I still need to respond to the negotiations.... I'm not really worried about it."
Not worried about it? Brock Boeser and Tyler Bertuzzi worried about it all year. Reporters suggest that if commitment was shown to them early, there wouldn't be uncertainty over the team all season long and they would have punched a ticket to the post-season. The Flames brass has been awfully silent this year, something you certainly wouldn't have expected from a team who was in the stanley cup final just last season.
Brock Boeser was extremely candid after watching his GM's comments this morning, "Extremely frustrated" Boeser said "Extremely frustrated with the lack of respect and commitment from management. Myself and Tyler (Bertuzzi) have poured our hearts and soul into this franchise to get it to a stanley cup final appearance last season... the franchise completely abandoned us this season and treated our negotiation process quite poorly."
"Maybe my services will be appreciated elsewhere." Boeser quipped.
If things were uncertain in Calgary already, they suddenly got their hands full a lot more this summer. From cup final appearance to failure to make the playoffs. What's going on in Calgary?
