Expansion lists are in, and the draft is tomorrow - obviously that means prediction time. Who you got Seattle taking?
Anaheim
- Jacob Larssom (D) - 24 year old defenceman who still has room to grow. No need to overthink this one
Arizona
- Christian Fischer (RW) - 24 year old winger who has shown upside in the past. Still some potential there I think Seattle would be wise to bet on
Boston
- Connor Clifton (D) - solid bottom / middle pairing guy on a great deal for 2 more years
Buffalo
- Zemgus Girgensons (C) - reliable midde-6 center, who has been productive on a bad Sabres team. Would be curious to see what he can do outside of Buffalo
Calgary
- Mark Giordano (D) - easiest pick of the draft. Seattle can resign him if they're good, or sell him at the deadline for a truckload of futures . Can't go wrong picking a guy who won the Norris two years ago
Carolina
- Morgan Geekie (C) - this was down to Geekie or Jake Bean. There aren't may 22 year old centers with top-6 potential available, and I don't think Seattle passes that up
Chicago
- Calvin De Haan (D) - not a lot to pick from in Chicago, but De Haan is a reliable defender. If he is pick, I don't expect him to play a game for Seattel before being flipped for futures
Colorado
- Joonas Donskoi (RW) - reliable middle-6 winger who has produced wherever he's gone
Columbus
- Kevin Stenlund (C) - bottome 6 guy but only 24. Maybe can do more with a bigger role / opportunity
Dallas
- Adam Mascherin (LW) - 23 years old, hasn't played an NHL game yet, but has had a very productive AHL career. Maybe a guy who can do more if given the opportunity.
Detroit
- Troy Stretcher (D) - another easy one. Solid RHD, don't need to overthink it
Edmonton
- Oscar Klefbom (D) - odd pick, but if he does ever play again you've got another very good defenceman. If not, you can stick him on LTIR for extra cap space.
Florida
- Markus Nutivaara (D) - a middle pair guy on a good contract next season. Likely flipped at deadline for futures
Los Angeles
- Andreas Athanasiou (C) - RFA who needs a new contract, but is a very good middle-6 forward. Also that 30 G potential may be too much for Seattle to pass up
Minnesota
- Carson Soucy (D) - Another youngish defenceman in the prime of his career. Reliable bottom pair guy
Montreal
- Carey Price (G) - fuck it, maximum chaos! DO IT SEATTLE!
Nashville
- Calle Jarnkrok (C) - affordable 3 line center. Scream of a guy getting traded at the deadline for futures
New Jersey
- Scott Wedgewood - goaltender depth
New York Islanders
- Keiffer Bellows (LW) - Seattle takes another gamble on a 2016 1st rounder who hasn't had much of an opportunity in the NHL despite good AHL production
New York Rangers
- Julien Gauthier (RW) - similar to their New York counterpart, Seattle steals another 2016 1st round pick who could potentially be more productive in a larger role
Ottawa
- Evgenii Dadonov - productive top-6 winger on a good contract with 2 years left. Easily flipped at the 2023 deadline for futures
Philadelphia
- Shayne Gostisbehere (D) - good offensive defenceman on a decent contract. Seems like he needs a change of scenery. Only two years left on his current deal, so could easily be flipped next season for futures
Pittsburgh
- Marcus Pettersson (D) - 25 year old defenceman, think Seattle would like to see what he does with a larger role
San Jose
- Ryan Donato (C) - good depth center, who many still seem to think has some upside. Worse case scenario he is a consistent bottom 6 guy
St. Louis
- Vince Dunn (D) - Seattle would be stupid to turn down a 24 year old, who is already playing consistent top-4 minutes
Tampa Bay
- Mathieu Joseph (RW) - Guy has been productive in a 4th line role with Tampa. This kid has potential to be a top-6 winger on a team with less depth than Tampa. Think Seattle would be crazy to pass on him
Toronto
- Jared McCann (C) - it really seemed written in stone that Seattle was taking Kerfoot. Not sure why they would pass on a younger, cheaper, and better center
Vancouver
- Madison Bowey (D)- Vancouver doesn't have a lot worth taking, so might as well take the bottom-pair guy making league min who can be easily flipped for futures
Vegas
- Exempt
Washington
- Vitek Vanecek (G) - Back up for Carey Price
Winnipeg
- Mason Appleton (C) - another young center who signed a league min deal this off-season. Produces in a bottom-6 role. Young enough you can keep him if he continues to produce, or flip him at the deadline for futures
