I am getting downright awful goaltending from high end goalies in all my leagues. I wonder if there’s something I’m doing with my lines that effect the goalies. Or just terrible goalie luck that will reverse?

I am getting downright awful goaltending from high end goalies in all my leagues. I wonder if there’s something I’m doing with my lines that effect the goalies. Or just terrible goalie luck that will reverse? I believe the overall quality of the team is what effects performance the most. I talked to Simon T, and he said there's an underlying mathetical equation, the better rated your team, the more likely your players are going to have better individual performances. I think if your line-up is weak in front of the goalie, the goalie will suffer, just like Grubauer has with Seattle in the NHL. As for unrated goalies seemingly doing 'well', it's a similar situation. Simon said if a goaltender is rated 54, you'd think that team would allow 8-9 goals a night, but at the end of the day it is not realistic. Having a 54 rated goalie will still affect the overall performance of the team as a whole, but it would not be fair if a rebuilding team to put in an unrated goalie just to tank, so he put in measures to prevent that. He said if a team suddenly upgrades their goaltender from say a 54 overall to an 85 overall, you'd start to see an uptick in the players performances in front of them and you'd start to see more wins before you would see that individual goalies stats get better. EDIT: After looking more into this, I also realized there are only 9 goalies in the VHL that have a SV % over .900 That doesn't seem very realistic either, in the NHL there's about 30 or more goalies with higher than .900 SV %. I wonder if we could tweak some sim settings to tighten up scoring somehow?

Simply put, I am starting to realize the sim is more like a 'Moneyball' factor where you want your ratings to output to one overall number. Team overalls are a good indicator of how well a team and their players will perform over the course of a season.

Hey folks, I am going to move some posts from the December 2 game thread to this thread, the 3 posts above are the ones I merged into this thread.
I think it warrants a bit more visibility and I wouldn't mind others to chime in pertaining to goaltenders or any other league matters you wanted to chat about or discuss now that we're in the quarter mark of the season.

I'm fine with the way it is, though I'm probably being selfish right now. Has this happened before in years past?

Personally I think it sounds very realistic for a team with a completely sub-par goalie (talking like multiple leagues away from the NHL, not just a weaker NHL goalie) to let in 8-9 a game but that explanation is super helpful to understand the Sim workings.
I'm assuming/hoping it doesn't but I wonder if the Sim takes 'cap hits' into account for these calculations as it does on the roster pages. Side fact about cap hits.. If you forget to scratch your cap hit it will find it's way onto the ice as a player regardless of whether it's on a line. Mine threw a successful hit earlier this year.

Jimmy Howard with a 31 save shutout tonight, let’s face it he’s just a beast!

Cap Hits are suppose to be indefinitely suspended so this doesn't happen. I see that yours got missed somehow.. I'll have to suspend it so it doesn't happen again.

I still don’t know why Grubauer continues to shit the bed so bad…my team OV is right on league average.

Perhaps SIM has become sentient and is taking Grubauer's performance from this year instead of last year?
