COLUMBUS (CP) - After the quick firing of Evan Scherbarth in the General Manager's office weeks ago. The Columbus Blue Jackets have officially announced that Andrew Mielniczek has been hired as the General Manager.
Andrew Mielniczek had two unsuccessful stints as General Manager of the Anaheim Ducks and the Chicago Blackhawks. Both teams cutting him short after he made a couple of rebuilding trades.
The two sides agreed yesterday that Andrew Mielniczek would stick with the team for a while, and he would have to keep the team's core intact, while looking forward for the future. The organization made it very clear to Mielniczek that they felt that the team's core was too strong for him to sell away. They allowed him to deal some players if they needed to balance the team.
"I realize that I can't always rebuild a team. The Ducks organization had a strong core, and it was wrong of me to sell that core away. So I guess it depends on the strength of the team," - said GM Mielniczek.
However GM Mielniczek had a different story with Chicago Blackhawks.
"I have nothing to admit anything wrong I did in Chicago. I had to rebuild that team, I had to. There was no core in this team. How could have I made the playoffs? The organization wanted me to do so, but I knew there was no chance. I had to rebuild, but they relieved me of my duties."
Many Jackets fans were shocked at this announcement, even the rest of the league were wondering why the Jackets Organization hired Mielniczek as the GM of the Jackets.
John H. McConnell, Owner of the Columbus Blue Jackets stated that he believed Andrew Mielniczek was the correct choice for this organization. He was not available for further comment.
