Tampa Bay's GM Alex and Columbus's GM Andrew made agreements last night that sent 4 lightning players, 3 lightning prospects, and 2 picks to columbus in exchange for Chris Pronger, David Vyborny, Aleksey Morozov, and Mark Hartigan.
With this trade Chris Pronger will step in as Captain, Vyborny as first Alternate and 2nd alternate being Darryl Sydor. The trade has shaken up the club to be a half-contender and half-rebuilder. In the case of Tampa it has no effect, as their picks in the 2007 draft were all traded a while ago.
Physicals showed that an Injury in Horton was not to an effect. The rest of the players had little to no problems in their examination. When speaking to the media Pronger said "I have no problem with going to a team that is not a contender, but i can help with the younger players and prospects that will be coming in the near future."
In 2008 the Lightning own plenty of picks, mostly being 1sts, Alex McNeil addressed the media on his plans with the picks " I have two options trade, or keep and pick up some youth. Depends who comes to me and what offers are made I am eyeing that scoring winger, and some much needed depth."
The projected line-up for Tampa Bay is the following...
Vyborny-Connolly-Dvorak
Mellanby-Belanger-Morozov
Ortmeyer- Weiss- Taylor
Afanasenkov-Tarnasky- Perrott
Pronger-Sydor
Mckee- Tallinder
Westcott - Boughner
Grahame
Which moves Mellanby from right wing to Left Wing
and Taylor is moved from center to Right Wing.
Also rumours in Tampa are saying that he has already found a couple gms and has been offering for another right winger.
