Anaheim (CA) - Signed, sealed, and delivered. Fresh faces join the club and get ready to do battle at the Arrowhead Pond in Anaheim.
When GM Frankie Nosic took over as the new GM of Anaheim, he promised a run at the Stanely Cup, as well as a stong, all-around team. Well, so far, he hasn't lived up to either one. But he has, however, signed several deals which he says "Will defenetly make the papers."
The Anaheim Ducks began the campaign by trading thier fourth-line winger Tyler Wright to Vancouver for netminder Patrick Lalime. "Emery has been playing great, but I decided that it's time for some backup to come. Lalime was avaliable and I figured to sooner we can get some major help, the better"
GM Nosic's next move was to involve himself in a deal with, yet again, the Columbus Blue Jackets. Shipping over his now third string goalie Jason Bacashihua and up and comming player Lee Stempanik, he recieved in return Defencemen Andreas Lilja as well as the return of Ruslan Fedotenko to the Anaheim Ducks. "I traded Fedotenko away because I needed to give a quality player away in order to recieve the Defenceman that I wanted. Now that my defence is looking much, much, better then we did at the beggining of my time, I can re focus on my goalscorers. I think the team missed Fedotenko, and I think that having him back was a good thing to do, even if it did cost some good, young talent."
But the most shocking deal made was when GM Nosic traded Ryan Getzlaf, yes THE Ryan Getzlaf "The guy EVERBODY was asking for", to the Ottawa Senators allong side with Tampa Bay's first overall draft pick in exchange for Sergei Samsonov. When asked why he pulled the trigger on Getzlaf, he had this to say: "Yes, I traded Getzlaf. I did it so nobody bother me about him again!" (Laughs) "I'm just joking. In reality, I felt this was a good deal because Samsonov has put up many points this season. Quite simply, hes a scoring machine this year. And if I want my team to make the playoffs this year, than I need somebody who can score for us. Yes, it was tough to trade away Getzlaf, I mean I really wanted to keep him and all (ask everybody who asked me to trade him), but When you trade players, you have to make sacrifices. Hopefully, this trade will be benefitial to both parties (myself and Ottawa) and get us into the playoffs."
Rumour also has it that the Anaheim GM is in discussion with the Toronto Maple Leafs in aquireing defencemen Kim Johnnson. "I'm not going to confirm or deny that statment" stated Nosic.
With the new talent and the return of a familiar face, The Ducks are hoping that that it will be enough to earn them a good run at the Cup. Only time will tell if the Ducks can fly to a championship, or end up roasted.
