Dallas Stars’ season 2021-2022 started with positive attitude and whole team was geared up for long playoff run. Before the playoff management and coaching team had a get together ; Caesar’s famous words were said “Alea iacta est (The die is cast)” and prays were made as well. Of course, winning the Cup seemed a pipeline dream, but Hockey Gods were in favor of Dallas. Line changes were frequent, especially on forwards. Defensive setup stayed the more or less intact throughout the playoff. After meeting tough teams in EVERY single playoff round, Dallas managed to cross the goal line first.
First of all, no one could understand what just happened!!! Dream came true and everyone went totally bananas; people were hugging each other, screaming, drinking… Whole atmosphere was electric.
After few hours team with management went to local private member’s club and had private time together ; Cup, stunning team, Partagas Cigars and Hibiki whiskey : equals to HEAVEN!!!
Here we go through first batch of Dallas players from 2021-2022 season Playoff roster (at least 1 game played):
Auston Matthews (20 GP : 15 G + 22 A = 37 PTS : +22 ; 11 PPP)
Summary: Offensive dynamo of the team. Played average 21.5 minutes per game and produced just under 2 points per game.
Although MAF was magnificent, MVP goes for Matthews hands down. Leading Dallas as Augustus the Great Roman Empire. Augustus’ quote ; ”If I have played my part well, clap your hands, and dismiss me with applause from the stage.”
Remaining certainty-%: 100 % (He won’t be moved, simple as that!)
Famous person resemblance: Augustus the Great. Leader and conqueror.
Mikko Rantanen (20 GP : 13 G + 14 A = 27 PTS : +20 ; 9 PPP)
Summary: Riding the shotgun next to Matthews in Dallas’ first line. Multiuse forward, who is used in PP/PK and can also play effectively as Center. Physically sounded player with “soft hands”, who is core player for Dallas Stars and Finland national team present and in future.
Remaining certainty-%: 95% (Both sides want to do a long-term contract some point next season. Chances him to be somewhere else are literally minimum.).
Famous person resemblance: Lauri Törni. Finnish WWII war hero. Törni’s quote ; “War went into blood.” Quote can be taken one way, or another, but shows the courage and determination of the person in question.
Joe Pavelski (20 GP : 10 G + 9 A = 19 PTS : +1 ; 8 PPP)
Summary: Reliable, talented and leader with capital L. Played most of the games against other teams’ best lines, in which majority of time he was pivotal of success. Still managed to produce just under one point per game. Source of advice and confidence for younger players. Overall, still an absolutely fantastic player even at his later stage of career.
Remaining certainty-%: 100% (New 2-year contract was signed before playoffs.
Famous person resemblance: William T. Sherman. Sherman’s quote: “War is the remedy that our enemies have chosen, and I say let us give them all they want.”
Kasperi Kapanen (20 GP : 7 G + 7 A = 14 PTS : +13 ; 1 PPP)
Summary: Perhaps the most surprising player in Dallas roster at playoffs. Of course, benefitted playing with Matthews and Rantanen in half of the games, but produced also with other line mates. And he scored the Cup winning goal, so amazing story for the young Finn!!!
Remaining certainty-%: 50% (RFA after coming season, and apparently some trade talks with his name have been circulating…)
Famous person resemblance: Michael Monroe. Hanoi Rocks’ founder and singer ; almost made it to the top, but unlucky with some things which occurred. Monroe’s quote: ”You shouldn’t say mean things to people before they will kill you. It’s being a sore loser.”
Dmitry Orlov (20 GP : 4 G + 10 A = 14 PTS : +10 ; 2 PPP)
Summary: Half of the season acquire to bolster Dallas’ defensive, both defensively and offensively. Was voted Dallas’ MVP D-player of the playoffs. Played with Chychrun and mostly against other teams’ best lines. Still managed to produce fantastic 14 points and plus 10. His IQ level is extremely high, and he make defensive play to look so damn simple.
Remaining certainty-%: 0 %. Unfortunately, there was no chance to resign him. Understandably he is looking for the last big contract and Dallas are not in position to offer that. Huge shame, but is name of the game.
Famous person resemblance: Lev Tolstoi, one of the greats in literature. Lev Tolstoi’s famous quote: “The two most powerful warriors are patience and time.” suites him perfectly.
Quinn Hughes (20 GP : 3 G + 11 A = 14 PTS : +6 ; 3 PPP)
Summary: Young highly skilled defender, who is total fans’ favorite. Surprisingly mature for his age, has even gained the trust of the veteran players. Plays big minutes and he feels very comfortably to play next to McAvoy. Perhaps looking the playoff points, he should have produced more in PP, but other teams were top notch and scoring goals was very challenging overall.
Remaining certainty-%: 90 % (RFA after next season, but talks for the new contract have started already. Would need a haul (literally) of top end assets to pry him away from Dallas.
Famous person resemblance: Erwin Rommel. Brain of gifted offensive oriented D, just gets more deadly day-by-day… Rommel’s quote: “Sweat saves blood, blood saves lives, but brains saves both.”
Charlie McAvoy (20 GP : 3 G + 11 A = 14 PTS : +5 ; 4 PPP)
Summary: Young, but already battle-hardened defender. Leader, heart and soul of Dallas’ D corps. Played the most minutes of the whole team in playoffs; 23 and half minutes per game. Such resilient, confident and reliable player, who is put on ice in every tight situation. Never backs down, in overall Superb player with capital S!
Remaining certainty-%: 100 %. Just signed 3 year contract last year and every intention from both sides are to continue this beautiful relationship. Offers on McAvoy are put directly into the shredder.
Famous person resemblance: Lt. Gen. Harold Moore. One of the most talented generals ever. His famous quote: “Fewer things will impact a team’s morale than a leader who does not recognize their accomplishments and hard work.” sums up McAvoy perfectly.
Zach Hyman (18 GP : 2 G + 11 A = 13 PTS : +6 ; 3 PPP)
Summary: Physical forward who is entering his prime and has been showing some solid flashes of offensive skills as well. Came into playoff as Pavelski’s line mate and did not disappoint. Played solid minutes in PP and PK as well. Unfortunately got two games suspension after things boiled over slightly…
Remaining certainty-%: 0 %. It was pretty clear at the beginning of the season that he would leave the team as UFA. Dallas’ cap situation prevents to offer him paycheck what he deserves. He will be fondly remembered as one the core pieces of Cup winning team. Whoever gets him, will be very lucky team indeed.
Famous person resemblance: Winston Churchill. Is not afraid to get physical and always defends teammates when needed. Sometimes goes little overboard, but it is understandable… As Churchill said: “I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat. We have before us an ordeal of the most grievous kind.”
Jakob Chychrun (20 GP : 3 G + 9 A = 12 PTS : +10 ; 5 PPP)
Summary: Long-serving Canadian defender at Dallas. Not missing a game and steadily improves after every game and training session. Formed one of the most solid D-line with Orlov, mutual understanding was remarkable. As for Orlov, even though played mostly against top lines, managed to have very good offensive stats. Quite quiet lad in locker room, but on ice voice is found.
Remaining certainty-%: 65 %. RFA after coming season, talks have been there, but nothing has been concluded yet. Rumors have said that he might be looking for new challenge, which Dallas’ management have not denied or confirmed. Understandably (prices what have been circulating in VHL), his price tag is expensive: one low cap and few years left on contract good level D, 2 high picks and one very good prospect have been overheard as price tag???
Famous person resemblance: Paul Simon. After the Cup win, his life is on crossroads on many ways : “Hello darkness, my old friend. I’ve come to talk with you again.” Let’s see where path will lead…
Joel Farabee (20 GP : 3 G + 9 A = 12 PTS : +5 ; 6 PPP)
Summary: Joel played mostly on third line and on second PP unit. Especially his PP stats were very good, managing to provide 6 assists. Otherwise, his stats were ok as for supportive cast player. Dallas management have waited him to make that next step, but progress has been slower than expected. Talent is there, but still a lot of games, where he disappears. But, in overall playoff games were above average.
Remaining certainty-%: 50 %. Will be RFA after coming season, there has not been any contract talks yet. Apparently both sides are waiting what off-season trade market will bring out… Asking price have been rumoured to be following: one high pick and one very good prospect. Will be a long off season for Joel.
Famous person resemblance: Adrien Brody. As for Brody Joel has not managed to hit the top. Even though all the tools are there, is Dallas right place for the deciding step? That is the big question. Lailah Aktia’s quote: “Seize every opportunity to fulfill your calling.” hits the nail! Are you listening Joel!?
In few days comes part two, which contains rest of the players...
