With the off season nearly ending the New York Rangers are pleased to announce that they are ready for a competitive season in the VHL. After an exciting summer with many trades, rumors, and even some harsh words, the off season still started and ended with a bang, and no I am not including the truck I totaled. Here is a brief run down of the moves.
IN --------------------------------- OUT
----------
Looking for some salary relief, and I was looking for a threat to replace Antropov, Frankie and I came together for a deal. Frank wanted some defence help and Tyutin is NHL ready and only going to get better and Immonen is a project that Frank can allow to play out better than I can and Sergei can be a threat on my second or third line with guys like Huselius/Rucinsky/Modin/Satan as his wingers so it was a win/win scenario for me and Frank.
IN --------------------------------- OUT
----------
After some early kinks in all negotiations between us two, when we finally got together on MSN to talk deal, we were able to work something out as both sides were able to better understand what each other wanted, and were willing to give for the deal. I got the starter I needed, although I was hoping not to give up Nik and Karri for him, but that is the way that the game is played.
IN --------------------------------- OUT
----------
After acquiring Mark Mowers in an early off season deal, and Anson Carter in a late off season deal, GM Steven Jakobsen decided to flip both players for defenceman Martin Skoula. GM Jakobsen had this to say. "We really like Mark and Anson, however, a better opportunity came up in Martin and we decided to pursue that option." When asked whether or not the fact that Carter would not be able to play on the farm team affected the decison, GM Jakobsen said this. "If a hot girl says she hates grey underwear, and the next morning you put on black, does that mean that the girl was the reason for black? No! It may have had an affect, but heck, you could've picked white, blue, pink(Frank), whatever, it was the same situation with this trade. Anson was just the guy that Detroit and I chose to go with Mark. "
IN --------------------------------- OUT
----------
This deal really backfired for me, as I was unfortunately unable to accomplish what I had hoped, however, in the end it did become a plus with Skoula coming my way. It was the quickest deal of the summer though, I contacted Sully and asked what Carters price was and we quickly agreed on Arkhipov to cover the 50,000 and Hollweg for Carter. It was win/win at that point as I needed neither player.
IN ------------------------------------------------ OUT
----------
I also traded prospect Vasily Koshechkin and a third round draft pick. These deals were meant to really give me some more scoring punch in Satan and a different type of defenceman in Backman, Leopold and Morris will be missed, however they are replaceable with a guy like Marc Staal coming up through the system soon.
IN ---------------------------------------- OUT
----------
I also gave up three third round draft picks and gained prospect Jhonas Enroth to bolster my goalie situation. This was a contention move as Kaberle would be a 5/6 defenceman for me and Martinek could do the same with a lower salary, Mowers was originally going to play my fourth line, and Enroth was going to add to my stable of goalies. This move in the end helped me get Skoula, a better crop of young goalies and Martinek, so I like the deal.
I also picked up Byron Bitz from the waiver wire to add another prospect to my list since I traded a few prospects I wanted to add at least one to keep the flux near even. He slots in to be a prospect who I might use down the road to accomplish other means depending on his development. We will give him all the time and chances that we can to have him develop into a player for us, however, if that is impossible we will let him walk, though that will be a long way down the road.
When asked as to when the CTC Cup would finally start, GM Jakobsen said. "As soon as possible, and don't you guys do research, it is now the CTC/Dual Citizens Cup and it will star as soon as the rosters are updated. I will also announce my lines for this event, they are as follows, I will be using the same lines, barring trades, for the regular season as well.
Sundin Nylander Jagr
Huselius Ribiero Satan
Rucinsky Fedorov Modin
Prucha Draper Samuelsson
Hamrlik Backman
Roszival Martinek
Skoula Pock
Raycroft
Esche
This roster is cup contendable I feel as well, and I await the Edmonton's or Calgary's in the West to fight in the finals after I have beaten the Buffalo's in the East. To all the other GM's who feel they have a shot, now is the time to prove yourself, and it may be your only chance. Good luck to all, and enjoy the rest of your whole day left of summer everybody!
