The New York Rangers are proud to announce that they have named various positions without the organization and are prepared to release these names to the public.
Pat Quinn has been named to the coaching staff to serve with Tom Renney in a joint-coach format that the Rangers will be trying out. Quinn will be in charge of the forwards and Renney will be in charge of the defencemen and the goalies. GM Steven Jakobsen said this. "We are not disappointed with Renney's work by any means, Pat Quinn merely approached us saying that he would like to help and we felt that as a good drive to the cup measure we would hire him on as a coach, and if that doesn't work out he will have an advising role with the team. Soon after Quinn's hiring talks began on who to name as captains and assistants, however, the decision has now been made.
The captain for the 2007/2008 season will be: Mats Sundin His assistants will be: Michal Roszival and Michael Nylander
Mats has been a cornerstone of leadership and skill for any team that he has been on and we feel that he should be rewarded for that.
Roszival is going to be counted on to be a big piece of our defence this season and we are rewarding him for his efforts with this assistant position.
Michael was huge for us last season down the stretch and we feel that he deserves credit for this effort and we expect more of the same so therefore we wanted to also give him an alternate captaincy position.
