2023 Boston Bruins Deadline Recap
In the first of 3 trades, the Bruins said their good-byes to defenseman Jamie Drysdale and welcomed in Matthew Knies. Jamie has been great to work with and a joy to watch progress. We take pride in our defense room and have a great group of up-and-coming players, but with that said, it got a little too crowded. Jamie became the odd Duck out. He was aggressively pursued and after a great negotiation meeting, we have acquired who we feel will be an amazing addition to the forward group, Matthew Knies. Our scouts have loved his work ethic, his passion and his game. ‘The way Knies establishes body positioning drives his value in every dimension of the game. He plays a hard game and get rewarded for the work. Goals and assists follow him all over the ice.’ We thank Jamie for all he’s done and wish him all the best in the future.
The second trade saw Kevin Fiala finally sent to a playoff contender. We had no intention on sending Fiala anywhere as we felt we were really close on accomplishing our goals together this year. He has been nothing but a face of this franchise and a King among men… we cannot thank him enough… but along came Lucas. When we were approached by Dallas about Lucas, we had to make it work. Lucas is a player we have been keeping tabs on even before he was drafted. Our scouts and management were all for trying to get him from the draft. He is a wonderful player with a very bright future in this league. ‘A very well-rounded and highly skilled winger. Raymond is blessed with exceptional hockey sense. Furthermore, he has terrific hands, great speed and fine work ethic. Plays with plenty of intensity and battles hard for the puck. A nightmare to play against with his forechecking and puck-stealing ability.’ Sounds like a Bruin to us! Welcome Mr. Raymond. Added to the Bruins roster were Cody Ceci and prospect Lucas Johansen. Also, on the way to Dallas to continue their development are Mason Lohrei, Fabian Wagner, and Lassi Thomson. Good luck to you gentlemen.
As Mr. Ceci arrived to the airport, he was handed a ticket to Las Vegas and in a state of confusion, found out he had been dealt to the Knights. The Bruins received Troy Strecher and a 2025 1st round pick. Let’s call this what it is. A future asset grab. Sorry for how you found out Cody but something tells me you’re happy to be looking at the post season.
We want to thank all the GMs of the VHL for some wonderful chats and great Draft Day Action.
