This ones easy, 52 GP versus 39 or 26 GP is a massive difference. That’s the difference between a #1A goalie and a backup or fringe #1. It’s the same reason Carter Hutton, Semyon Varlamov and Mikko Koskinen are all around the same. The reason Lundqvist’s overall is higher than the guys I mentioned is because of his EX and LD. Take that away and they’re all roughly the same overall.

Just a quick note regarding overall ratings. Every time this discussion comes up, the general suggestion is to ignore the player's overall rating and focus on the individual categories. This is certainly valid, as the sim doesn't use the overall for anything, and the individual ratings determine the outcome of each play.

That being said, the overall is a weighted average of each individual rating, with emphasis placed appropriately on the ratings that a have a larger impact in the sim, and also uses a different average for forwards/defense and for players who are prominently offensive or defensive.

Given that we have limited control over the minute details of each game, my controversial suggestion to a new GM would be to use the overall rating and an indicator of each player's total contribution.

Okay, if 13 games played is such a huge difference in games played, then why are Schneider's ratings so similar to Crawford's? He played 13 less games than Crawford and Crawford played 13 less than Lundqvist. His stats are all considerably worse.

Also, if games played mean so much then why is Alexandar Giorgiev 84 OV? His stats are almost identical to Crawford's, and he played in 8 less games.

It doesn't make an ounce of sense that Crawford is 5 full OV points less than Lundqvist, his DU and EN ratings should be lower, I fully concede that. But that doesn't add up to such a huge divide.
It doesn't make an ounce of sense that Crawford is 4 full OV points less than Giorgiev, who played 8 less games than Crow and has very similar numbers.

I also understand Pittsburgh's point about overall ratings just being an average of all ratings, so I'm going to identify my issues with specifics.

SK: giorgiev 92, lundqvist 89 vs. crawford 73
RB: giorgiev 88, lundqvist 85 vs. crawford 79
SC: giorgiev 86, lundqvist 83 vs. crawford 76
SZ: giorgiev 88 vs. crawford 84 (size, right? crawford is taller than giorgiev)
HI: giorgiev 88, lundqvist 84 vs. crawford 78
PH: giorgiev 88, lundqvist 87 vs. crawford 82

Any way you want to look at it, I don't think anyone in their right mind would say Crawford is the 39th best goaltender in the league but he's rated that way.

And again, if you want to play the games played card as of utmost importance then maybe you should nerf Jack Campbell, Giorgiev, Juuse Saros, etc.

Ok, there's a lot going on in your post so I'm going to break it down in a few sections. Let me start with this;

Outside of Endurance, Size, Experience and Leadership, there is no easy way to do goalie ratings other grouping goalies together based on their SV%, GAA, SA/GP, and advanced stats. It's literally ALL manual work and we post these ratings before being finalized so guys like you can help us point out any anomalies.

Schneider VS Crawford
- I agree, Schneider should be lower than Crawford. That was an error on my part.
- Knocked him down a couple to line with Copley

Georgiev VS Crawford
- Not sure what you're looking at as Georgiev's stats are quite a bit better than Crawford and Georgiev played 7 games more??

Crawford's Ranking
- Crawford's rank as the 39th best goalie makes sense as he has the 35th lowest SV%, 39th highest GAA and was 44th in Wins for Goalies over 20 GP.

Crawford 39 GP, 14 wins, 2.93 GAA, .908 SV%, 2 SO

Seem fairly close to me, thought some of those rating gaps i posted should be narrowed is all. I appreciate you looking into it, thanks Kyle. I can see how goaltending could be more difficult to process than forwards or defensemen.


edit: I still dont understand how georgiev is 6'1" and under 200lbs and has an 88 SZ and Crawford is 6'2" and over 200lbs and has 84 SZ
